For all art and criticism, a little dash of narcissism is necessary.
But here, there lies a terrible temptation.
Art and criticism are driven between the gap between me and The Outside.Instead of leading us to idolatry of the self, this chasm should lead us to self-sacrificial love of others, and an emptying-out that demands no price, and asserts no claims.
If you seek truth and beauty, you no longer have any rights.
You must subordinate all to a higher vision.
But then face to face.
