Keith Olbermann Announces 174th Day of Mind-Numbing Ordinariness in Columbus, Ohio

As every viewer of Countdown with Keith Olbermann on MSNBC knows, at the very end of his show, Keith Olbermann makes a point of counting down the days from when Bush declared “Mission Accomplished” in Iraq, the beginning of the Iraq war, and more recently, the day of the oil rig explosion that killed 9 oil workers in the Gulf of Mexico.

Facing criticisms for his negative view of the world, Olbermann has been asked why he only focuses on issues over which we have no control when he could be bringing to light matters that we may be able to turn around for the better.

It is because of this, Olbemann has added yet another milestone reminder for his viewing audience, i.e the number of days that Columbus, Ohio has suffered from mind-numbing ordinariness. What does this mean? Well, for starters, you rarely hear of any terrorist activities coming out of Columbus, Ohio. In fact, most stories coming out of that city are quite boring indeed. For instance, here are two city headlines in the Columbus Dispatch today, “Athletic Club Hosts Zucchini Lovers” and “First Day of Classes Orderly.” Oh, ok, there is the occasional shooting and the fight over city budgets kind of thing, but nothing out of the ordinary. Nothing that would scream “EXCITING NEWS HAPPENING HERE!”

While many fans of Olbermann’s show are getting tired of the same old countdowns, the producers of the show are hoping that this latest addition will help Olbermann’s ratings going into the fall sweeps. “But,” says one Olbermann aide who asked not to be identified, “Olbermann calling Columbus ordinary is kinda like the pot calling the kettle black.”

  1. I’m going to send this to my brother who lives in Columbus and he is really going to be pissed.
    He lifts weights.
    He eats alligators live.
He sends nasty emails to Mike Tyson.
He throws fire bombs at SWAT Teams.

Of course he will probably agree with you.
