An unlikely partnership has formed between some very conservative-thinking patriots and a group of stoners who could care less about any politics unless, of course, they involve the legalization of marijuana.
How it happened, no one is really certain, but the ability to undo what has been done may be harder than anyone anticipated due to the fact that there is a rather large sum of money hanging in the balance.
Evidently, a group of patriots had visited a website by the name of the Tea Partiers of Sonoma County and just assumed that the site was affiliated with the National Tea Party. The TPSC was looking for donations to place one of their members on the ballot as a state senator and before they knew it, loads of money started pouring in from the other Tea Party members (the patriots). By the time the error was caught, more than $1.5 million dollars lined the coffers of the California Pot Growers Association through donations to the TPSC.
Justice Henry, one of the largest donors to the site claims that he personally raised almost three-quarters of a million dollars through a series of robo-calls to his fellow Tea Party members. “I don’t smoke pot,” claims Henry “and I don’t really like the fact that my money and that of my fellow Tea Party members is going toward something we are vehemently against.” However, claims Henry, while they would like to see their money going toward causes more in line with their political beliefs such as trying to unseat President Obama and getting tougher laws on illegal immigration, they just don’t have a sound basis at this point to get their money back. “We handed it over to those dope fiends, and now we have to live with it,” said Henry.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the TPSC claims that they have information to the contrary. They say that it is common knowledge that the Tea Party group of which Henry is a member knew darn good and well that their money was going toward putting a candidate in office that would lead the fight to legalize marijuana in California.
At any rate, neither party wants to take the matter to court. Henry is reluctant because of the embarrassment the mix-up will cause, and well, the TPSC doesn’t really have anything to gain by walking into a court of law for any reason, especially one that may eventually lead to the donations being stripped away. Buzz Henry, no relation to Justice Henry, claims that talks are underway with the Tea Party to form a joint committee to get their candidate elected and so far, they haven’t said no.
“It’s the late night meetings in smoke-filled back rooms sometimes where the real business gets done,” said Buzz.
