Handicapping the Popes

Angelo Scola, 71, Milan, Italy
Scola is the archbishop of Milan and has probably the best overall arm in the whole field. Terrific overhand curve, excellent command of his fast ball and a back door slider that drives the scouts crazy. keep your eye on this one.

Christoph Schoenborn, 67, Austria
Schoenborn is the archbishop of Vienna. In 2012, he overruled one of his priests and allowed a gay Catholic to serve on a parish council. Also some hammy issues to watch.

Peter Erdo, 61, Hungary
Erdo is the archbishop of Budapest and runs a 4.5 40… bats left, throws right… considered an everyday player.

Joao Braz de Aviz, 65, Brazil
Braz de Aviz heads the Vatican’s department for religious congregations and is a natural southpaw. Has an outstanding curve but a so-so fastball. May be most valuable in long relief. He became a cardinal in 2012.

Marc Ouellet, 68, Canada
Ouellet is the head of the Congregation for Bishops and is the fastest priest at the combine… benches over 400 pounds and yet is the 3rd quickest bishop in the 40 for those over 65 years old. might start at quard although his natural position is left tackle.

Peter Turkson, 64, Ghana
Little known switch hitting African is the current front runner. Good field, terrific hit. Can lead off but has enough pop to bat 3rd or maybe 5th. Stole over 60 bases his last year at Vatican City, acquitted in every case.
