Traffic Light Nutritional Coding System Given Green Light

Traffic Light Nutritional Coding System Given Green Light

A new system of coding fat, sugar and salt content has been approved and would mean that all pre-packed food would have to display a colour coded guide on the front of the package.

Red would mean high in fat, sugar or salt, amber meaning a little higher then needed and green meaning acceptable levels.

The move has come after health officials said that fat consumers didn’t have the energy to turn packets over and read the nutritional contents.

Officials said that it would also help because people are idiots and often think they are eating healthy food when in fact it is full of sugar and salt.

Just like every other pro-health initiative, I think it would backfire and wind up making us even fatter. I trick my kids into eating healthy, but with a green label, they’d know without even trying it that it’s not for them.
