Banned Fiat Super Bowl Commercial Raised Eyebrows, Hackles

‘Tis the season when marketers go the extra mile and even passive fans stick to their TVs, even if just to watch the commercials.

Fiat ran a clever commercial this year, but it was nothing close to the one they originally wanted to show.

Italians, man. I can’t speak directly to their cars, marketing or choice in leading ladies, but I can say this was a pretty clever ad in its original form.

Luckily, a leaked copy showed up on YouTube so we can see exactly what was considered “too hot” for American television, and frankly, it’s shocking.

The Super Bowl is hardly exempt from scandals. When Janet Jackson’s nipple made its debut not long ago, it was the most XXX Super Bowl halftime since Super Bowl 30.

I could bore you for days, and honestly I plan to, but first I’ll spare you the pain and show you the video here. It’s in high-def and even has Closed Captioning, if that helps.

Recap

Why would they show a car screaming around narrow streets at speeds that are unsafe?

Why does the highway view present the motor as sounding like a lawn mower?

Why were the sex icons so wholly geriatric, so much so as to require off-brand male enhancement pills?

Some questions have no answers. These questions have answers, but they are likely best left to the imagination, because the truth couldn’t be anything but worse.
