At the Rock On Hotel in downtown Dallas, the Lee Harvey Oswald Band has been sold out for the past three weeks, with ticket scalpers demanding $2,500 per ticket to get a front-table seat at one of the bands two shows nightly.
So, how good is this band and why has it prevailed all these years? Simple. People love them and their folksy, vintage rock music. The band accommodates their fans by playing popular tracks from albums that are nearly 45 years old, but still cause the crowd to jump to their feet as original riffs from ‘Head Shot’ fills the stage as Lee Harvey jumps onto the stage playing ‘Killshot,’ his favorite Les Paul guitar shaped like a WWII rifle.
Lead guitarist Jack Ruby brings down the house with his soloist rendition of ‘I Shot The Sheriff’ which is the band’s signature track from their popular second album released in 1971.
Lee Harvey Oswald closes each show with the band’s number one hit “All Jackie Wants For Christmas Is Jack-In-The-Box”a fan favorite which has taken two Grammy Awards in 1981, and was on the sound track for Oliver Stone’s movie ‘JFK.’
In a recent Rolling Stone interview, Lee Harvey said his favorite venue was Dallas, and he was looking forward to visiting a few of his old haunts. He said he plans a day down at the old School Book Depository where he and a Jack Kennedy look-a-like will be posing for photos and signing autographs for a local charity.
The Lee Harvey Oswald Band will be playing at the Rock On Hotel for two more weeks.
