The Los Angeles-based Israel advocacy group Stand With Us has begun running bus advertisements in San Francisco asking the U.S. Congress not to support the Palestinian resistance group Hamas. According to spokesperson Dr. Macho Harass, the level of Congressional support for Hamas has reached alarming levels.

“This all started when the U.S. and Israel provided arms and money to rival group Fateh in 2007,” said Harass. “The military aid was supposed to assure the overthrow of the elected but undemocratic Hamas government and the installation of an unelected but democratic Fateh government instead.
“Unfortunately, the Fateh forces were defeated instead, and Hamas came out on top.
“We have to stop providing this kind of support for Hamas.”
I asked Harass what sort of action could end the support.
“Why is Hamas even in existence?” asked Harass, rhetorically. “It’s because Israel decided back in 1988 that it wanted a rival group to counter the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) and undermine PLO support amongst Palestinians. Furthermore, Hamas gets most of its popular appeal from its intolerance for corruption and its steadfast opposition to the expulsion of Palestinians from their land.”
“That still doesn’t explain what you expect Congress to do,” I reiterated.
“I thought it would be obvious,” replied Harass. “If Congress will stop sending money to the corrupt Palestinian Authority, it will no longer have the means to be corrupt, thus undermining the Hamas claim to be the only choice for stopping corruption.
“More important, Congress can end aid to Israel until it stops confiscating Palestinian land and returns what it has stolen.”
“That will take away the only other excuse Palestinians have for supporting Hamas. It’s appalling that we have put up with this stupidity for so long.”
“Very clever,” I ventured. “I notice that you’re running another ad saying that Israelis invested over $57 billion in U.S. companies between 2000-2010. What’s that about?”
“In a way it’s the same message,” explained Harass. “We want to show that Israelis are already loaded with money and that it makes no sense for the U.S. to be sending them any more. I think Americans are smart enough to understand.”
Looks to me like this guy got his instructors words all mixed up. I agree with the previous comments below. Stop the oppression, Stop the Occupation. World Justice.
The ‘Israelis-Jobs’ ad looks like a campaign ad for Israel. The right place for it is in Israel where Israelis will say “why are they shipping Israeli jobs to the U.S.?”.
As far as ‘congressional support for Hamas’… that’ll be news to Congress since they put Hamas on the FTO list they’d all be liable for ‘material support’ charges. The rationale that stopping support of the corrupt Fatah/P.A. would remove a reason for voting for Hamas must have come from some Monty Python episode I missed…
This whole article seems double sided and confusing. However, Hamas is supported by the people because it actually provides services to them and demonstrates materially its concern for the plight of those who are injured by the unjust and illegal blockade of Gaza and the illegal theft of Palestinain land and livelihood.
What is never discussed in the mainstream media is that Isreal NEVER intended to accept the UN boundaries, always wanted control of all of Historic Palestine. Their children’s textbooks show maps of Isreal as occupying all of Palestine and never acknowlege the Palestinian presence as historic and legal.
The US thought Isreal would be their white base in the Mid-east but Isreal has always played the US for its long range purposes.
Interesting that the recent speech by Netanyahu spoke of power as their only real goal and this compares with Romney and Obama who basically did the same. And the people of Isreal, as in the US, are struggling under withdrawal of public services, increased military spending, loss of civil liberties, and increased cost of living expenses without increase in income. The racism in Isreal is as violent as it is here–maybe even more so these days.
As for $$$ given to Isreal by the US, that is a fact. It doesn’t matter if Isreal has its own money.
I guess I’m too dumb. I don’t get it.
Well maybe this just reflect my lack of expertise on these issues but… seriously, let’s not support Hamas?
Call me out if I’m wrong, and support it… but am I wrong?
