If you’ve ever seen a movie, then you’ve seen the late, great Pete Postlethwaite. It was announced today that curtains have finally been called on the greatest performance of his life – that of his life itself.
Postlethwaite had been battling cancer of an as yet undisclosed type when he quietly died in his bed.
The oscar nominated actor has been in films inlcuding Inception, Clash on the Titans, the 2006 remake of The Omen, The Constant Gardner, The Shipping News, Amistad, Jurassic Park, Romeo and Juliet, The Usual Suspects, In the Name of the Father, The Last of the Mohicans, AlienĀ³, Hamlet, and far too many more to mention.
Postlethwaite’s Bacon number will forever remain at two (in “The Usual Suspects” with Kevin Pollack, who was in “A Few Good Men” with Kevin Bacon.)
Rest in peace you brilliant bastard. You will be missed.
I watched ‘Our Man Godfrey’ last evening. I’m always struck by those 30’s movies, in what a deep bench they had for supporting cast.
Pete could’ve held his own in ‘Arsenic & Old Lace’ or ‘His Girl Friday.’ That’s about the most admiring thing I could say of any actor, and I wouldn’t say it of many who are called stars.
You sure got this up quick. I just read about it on Yahoo.
A great understated actor. Always a pillar of any movie he was in. Always a co-star, never a star. But you always knew he was there. His life story is a great an inspiration as any movie itself.
