Man Calls “Dibs” On Burgundy Role, Sends Ferrell Packing

MINNEAPOLIS- Everyone and their maternal mothers are looking forward to the sequel to the hit movie Anchorman, which set box office records for a news-based, pseudo-docudramady across the country back in 2004.

However, there have been rumors bubbling around regarding big, some might even say large changes to the cast.

It seemed set in stone that after such a phenomenal performance in the first movie, Will Ferrell would be welcomed back as Ron Burgundy in the sequel, but the latest dirt-devil out of the barren rumorscape, this seems it will sadly not be the case.

DreamWorks Studios admitted that it has indeed been confirmed that in July of 2004 a man from Virginia called “dibs” on the role of Burgundy for the future movie. For those of you unfamiliar with the law of “dibs” it essentially states that if you are the first party to verbally announce “dibs” on anything of interest, and it is witnessed by two other people (three people if on a Thursday, or uttered by a virgin, both real or born-again), that you automatically gain complete rights over said thing. Originally developed by the Greek, this term was used to settle disputes regarding women as well as select boys.

GlossyNews.com was able to reach Ferrell for a comment and this is what he had to say:

“To be completely honest I’ve been putting a lot of work into this movie and I hate to just walk away from it. On the other hand, the man did call dibs and that is something larger than myself and I will respect it. I mean it sucks for me. It was going to be a $20 million [dollar salary for the film], but I guess I wish him the best of luck.”

Producer, Judd Apatow, wished to reassure fans that he is very excited for this change of pace and believes that this is exactly the spark the movie needs, saying, “I can’t believe this. It’s so stupid. The movie is probably going to get canceled or go straight to video. I don’t know why I let them put the dibs clause in my contract.”

Appatow did offer his best wishes to Ferrell, but based on his level of disappointment and the sure financial detriment this will cause, does not intend to speak with him any further.

Totally legit tactic. That's how I managed to marry Meagan Fox, though like all her other husbands, I did have to wait my turn.
