Burbank, California – The Olive Garden is rising from the grave in the newest sitcom premiering in March on Fox from Executive Producer, Tyler Perry.
The new show, Family Platters, is a sequel to the 90s hit, Family Matters, that ran for 9 seasons and 215 episodes between 1989 and 1998.
“It’s exciting!” Said Reginald VelJohnson, who is ecstatic to reprise his role as Carl Winslow.
“The whole cast really became close on the set of the original show and after getting the call from Tyler Perry that we were going to be filming a Tyler Perry reproduction of a Tyler Perry production, we all had smiles on our faces,” VelJohnson added.
Jaleel White will also be reprising his original character as the ever so popular, Steve Urkel, the next door neighbor to the Winslow family that provides plenty of comic relief with his signature voice and new catch phrase, “Did I bake that?”
In Family Platters, the Winslows attempt to resurrect the Olive Garden by opening their own restaurant after the chain went extinct in 2014 due to overbreading. Before the restaurant opens, Steve Urkel is appointed Master Breadman after baking a scrumptious pumpernickle loaf for Carl’s 60th birthday party and the fun only rises from there as Urkel yields plenty of misbakes in the kitchen.
“I want people to laugh, but also to take a step back and appreciate the wonders all around us,” Tyler Perry said, while wearing his Madea mask with an authentic Olive Garden hairnet attached. “The world lost something that can never be returned in the item that once came complimentary with the purchase of any entree or as part of the soup and salad lunch option,” Perry added.
Family Platters premieres on Wednesday, March 11th and will include 16 episodes in the first season.
