OSHKOSH, WI (GlossyNews) — A local 18-year-old, Mark Edwards, was ejected from the Life Fest Christian Rock Festival this past weekend for displaying a rude gesture during one of the band’s performances.
“I was watching Crossroads, and man, they we’re tearing it up!” Edwards told the press. “I was so into it, and before I knew it, I made the devil horns sign with my hand.”
Edwards continued, “I don’t know what happened. My hand just went up there on its own, kind of like it was possessed!”
Concert organizer Scott Miller agreed, stating, “Crossroads’ music would never inspire fans to raise their hands to the devil. We witnessed an act of Satan this weekend, and Life Fest intends to take it seriously.”
Edwards is embarrassed about the incident and is planning on reading the pamphlets he was handed by security personnel as they escorted him through the exit gates. With a look of concern and regret, he quietly uttered, “I have to trust there’s still hope for me.”
The idiocy of the whole thing is that the gesture isn’t making devil’s horns. It is, in fact, a crown. The whole devil’s crown thing is that Christian extremists who love to pick on rock ‘n’ roll jump to wild conclusions about some of the dumbest things. The late Ronnie James Dio, who originiated the “King of Rock ‘n’ Roll” crown symbol says it is just that – a crown symbol. Then right-wing Christian fundamentalists took it from there.
I found the article’s subtle Robert Johnson reference particularly good.
That’s what happens when Glossy gets a somewhat literate commenter commenting in the comments section. Confounds us, doesn’t it?
Hahahaha, exactly! Wait, what?
hahaha! This somes up what is wrong with christianity, the fact that you oppress a man for enjoying himself and for producing a sign that got any semiotic meaning from man, not God…
I love live music. Going to gigs and concerts is the best way to experience music. Live and Loud thats what I say..
