Android versus iPhone: Let’s Agree to Disagree

The Android versus iPhone debate has been persistent ever since the top selling smartphones became contenders. As with many types of technology, there are hardcore brand supporters who will not and cannot be persuaded to try something different. So, while you may already have your mind set on whether or not you will be a lifelong Android or iPhone user, it’s diplomatic to say that we can all agree to disagree; both phones have a lot of great qualities.

Rather than rehashing what’s better than the other and vice versa, here are some features that are noteworthy and truly helpful to those who aren’t loyalists to a certain brand:

Life of a Battery

Studies have revealed that smartphone users spend approximately five hours each day on their phones, which is about one-third of their waking hours. From taking photos and posting on social media to answering work emails, most smartphone users rely on their smartphone throughout the day and while on-the-go, therefore, a long lasting battery is essential. Although you can charge your phone whenever you need to, home many times have you left your charger at home or realized that your friend’s iPhone charger doesn’t fit your Android and vice versa.

Some of the latest smartphones, whether you have an iPhone 7 or the Pixel XL, have outstanding battery power. Battery life averages between 13 and 15 hours when using wi-fi and between 24 to 32 hours for talk time (depending on the smartphone and condition of the battery).

Storage Space and Memory

Since smartphones are somewhat like personal filing cabinets, it’s a definite must to have adequate storage and memory. If you use your smartphone for both work and play, it’s likely to you go back and forth between the two worlds all day long. Need to spend the afternoon taking pictures for a project at work, plan to play poker on your phone, and want to listen to a library full of podcasts that you downloaded for your evening jog? Too many things can slow your phone and even make your productivity come to a standstill.

Fortunately, with smartphones like OnePlus 3T or iPhone 7 Plus, storage can vary from 32GB to 256GB depending on the model and if you have external storage. Although you may need to take a break in your day to transfer some photos and videos to your external hard drive, storage shouldn’t interfere with your busy schedule

Better Cameras

It’s comical to think back at all the pictures we used to send in our early cellphone days. Grainy, pixelated, and with very few editing options, if any. Once smartphones became more popular, front facing cameras made the selfie that much easier. Even though we live in a selfie obsessed society, smartphone users have taken a serious interest in photography. Newer iPhone and Android models have great cameras that can capture stunning photos during the day and night life hours and not only are the pictures stunning, but more convenient than toting around a camera valued at easily over $1,000.

Whichever smartphone brand you prefer, the new and upcoming models continue to impress users with upgrades to some essential features.
