Fine, I’ll Break the News: Paul Dinello to Take Over Colbert Report

With Stephen Colbert leaving to fill the massive shoes of David Letterman on CBS, who will take over at 11:30 on Comedy Central? Paul Dinello, it is hoped.

This news has not been official until now. No one else has picked up on the obvious clues, so once again, I’ll be the one to break the news. Paul Dinello is being groomed to take over on The Colbert Report.

You may remember Dinello from his role in Strangers With Candy, which he co-created along with Amy Sedaris and… Stephen Colbert.

Watch this clip, then continue having someone read this to you.

When Colbert got his own show he hesitatated only slightly before choosing to keep Dinello close at hand. According to IMDB Dinello has four writing credits, 15 cast credits, 4 supervision/consulting producer credits, one assitant editor credit and four consultant credits.

He also co-authored Wigfield with Colbert and was a producer on the broadcast of the Rally to Restore Fear and/or Sanity, also with Colbert.

After years of absense… Tad returns

Out of nowhere, Tad has returned. Two appearences in nary a couple weeks.

And not just returned, he’s back wearing a suit. He’s never done that on the Report before, but here’s the clip.

Late Show with David Letterman shout out

Oddest of all is after seven years hosting his own show, Colbert finally decides to mention his long-time writing partner, and he did so on the largest platform possible.

This conclusion isn’t conclusive

I won’t put money down that Dinello will succeed Colbert, but I’ll put money that he’s going to get a chance to shoot at least a pilot.

He’s put in his time, he’s earned his stripe, and frankly, he’s just plain worth it.

  1. Strangers was a great show. What was his name, Goddfrey? So many people missed out on a classic.
